Good Signs for the Housing Market

high-end home salesThe high-end home market is on the rise, says John Mossman in his Denver Post article, “Luxury home market in the Denver metro area on the rise.”  With mortgage rates decreasing and home sales rising, the market is looking considerably better than the last couple years.

Prospective home buyers and sellers could use a few encouraging words after the last several years. John Brimberry of Vectra Bank Colorado shares a few:

There’s a lot of liquidity in the market and improved confidence, so a lot of people who’ve been sitting on the sideline can now sell their home or buy a nicer one.

The signs continue to be good around the Denver/Boulder area.

Some Less Than Good News

Phillips 66, a leading oil and gas company, has issued its intent to sell the 400+ acres  it originally intended to use for building a research facility.

While the news comes as a disappointment to the city of Louisville where the property is located, most were not surprised considering the state of the economy since 2008 when the land was purchased.

The good news for the city is that the acreage will go back on the market shortly. And as mayor Bob Muckle points out, at least Phillips 66 has

assured us they’ll work hard to find a new user of the property that will be compatible with our community and beneficial for the region.

So, there is some good news to be had, and at least the mystery’s over.

Boulder Destined for Development

walnut st updatesPearl St in downtown Boulder could look different in the near future. This week the city council voted in favor of letting an already-approved proposal stand. This proposal allows Karlin Real Estate to redevelop properties on Pearl St and Walnut St.

The decision was met with mixed emotions:

Some were in favor like Sean Maher, Downtown Boulder Inc., who said “tech companies are leaving Boulder for downtown Denver, and the city desperately needs more modern office space to keep its competitive edge.”

Others? Not so much.  “I’m that guy walking down Pearl Street shivering and wondering why it’s so cold and then realizing it’s that big building.” – Kent Young.
